Pangean is coming to Goadupa Festival 2018, Bieszczady Mountains, Poland with both inspirational, indigenous culture-oriented lectures and workshops.
The first lecture, The voice of Nimea Kaya (event page) will be a popular talk on plant-based medicinal work and can be seen as a broad introduction to the plant-based medicinal work and Shipibo Culture and will cover: How to prepare yourself for ceremonies and shamanistic rituals? Who is a shaman and what is his/her role? What is an intention and why is it important? Understanding ceremonial space? We also talk about Shipibo culture and plant-based medicine, as approached from anthropological, cultural, spiritual and scientific angles. It is worth to mention that both spiritual and scientific aspects of the medicine are introduced, alongside native stories and beliefs. The audience will be introduced to the pantheon of the jungle spirits and plants. Finally, we will go through health and safety part which is a vital part of any preparation for conscious work with medicine.
The second lecture and gathering, called The Spirit of Mapacho (event page) will present the audience with the story of the Sacred Wild Tobacco (bot. Nicotiana Rustica), known as Mapacho – one of the most important plants in the indigenous shamanistic practices. Shamans from the jungle consider it a Master Plant and the main tool in every shamanistic ritual. Mapacho is seen by them as a friendly spirit, a guide, who can help us navigate in the realm of plant spirits and who can protect us from dark entities. The art of harvesting wild tobacco is known and practised in the jungle for centuries. Indigenous shamans who only work with Mapacho spirit are called Tabaqueros. I will talk about them and their work.
In the Amazon jungle tobacco is used in many forms; smoke, smudge, sniff, powder and even liquid. Unlike popular tobacco sniff, called Rapeé (all Nicotiana Rustica products are legal in Europe, but less popular than “commercial tobacco”), fresh Mapacho leaves contain a lot of natural “organic” energy and are pure, meaning no other plants or additional indigents are used in the process of production. In the native environment, tobacco juice is often used to clean sinuses from infections and tobacco sniff is used to “sharpen senses” before hunters enter the rainforest. I will talk about practical aspects of this tradition in the circle.
